Books I have read in the past few weeks

Teacher Man - Frank McCourt
The gripping novelty from Angela's Ashes seems to have dried out.

Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger
The emptiness of a lost soul readily resonates and makes you wonder how universal it could be and from how young an age it could start, and also how historical is cynicism.

High Fidelity - Nick Hornby
It is probably more self-serving than otherwise, especially with frequently blatant counts of soundtracks and artists throughout the book - so Nick Hornby is erudite with music and its artists other than just a writer, a point taken.

Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
A book whose cover one inclines to conceal from exposure while reading in public, lest one looks outdated and sheepish for jumping into the bandwagoning mass at least 3 years late, despite the wisdom of its plot and the sophistication of knowledge researched. But it really is not a big deal - both the predicament of catching up and the book itself. Although the book may have sold millions of copies, and a Hollywood film made out of it, it is really more amusing than earth shattering.

Elephant Song - Wilbur Smith
A book from the 90s' archive, it is a pleasant surprise of African thriller. Youth was an over-rated period in a man's life, filled with so much confusion and anxiety and unhappiness - probably the best line from the book.
