Serendipity

As I believe in destiny and luck, I certainly believe in serendipity. Since it is, by definition, about the discovery of good fortune by accident, it is certainly a matter of luck. It is also a matter of evolution. As such, it probably applies to more things in life - and how good they end up to be - than anyone readily accepts them to be the case.

I think of relationships, arts, sports, writing, work, business development, in fact, the process of learning in general. To various extent, each process of evolution must involve a certain sense of enlightenment for it to move on, or it ceases to evolve further. But enlightenment is a matter of fortuitous discovery - in either spiritual or material sense - which cannot be taken for granted. It happens by chance.

Understanding that things happen by chance, of course, does not mean denying the importance of a person's intention, motivation and effort. Indeed serendipity applies only when an effort of discovery is made. It means, however remote and insignificant, the role of human conscious effort is recognized in the process of enlightenment or fortune making.

Believing in serendipity, therefore, is far from superstition. It is about recognizing , if not thoroughly understanding, the logic of cause and effect and statistics. It is also a certain form of positive thinking, believing that greatness always starts small, and the word makes far more sense than simply "luck".
